Looking out of the window of your vehicle as it is moving on what looks like a typical mountain road, you feel something new and you start wondering what it could be. Located in northeastern part of India, Sikkim is often reffered to as the "brother" to "seven sister" states of the region. The first place that comes to one's mind when thinking about visiting Sikkim is its captial city of Gangtok. Boasting off its pristine natural surrondings and the adequate amount of modernisation, Gangtok is rightly known as the "gateway to Sikkim".
Tracing back its origin to the ancient Silk route, Nathula pass is one of the highest motorable roads in the world and is a hotspot for the tourists visiting the state. Although one needs to take a permit from the concerned authorities in Gangtok to visit Nathula but the panormic view of the region that Nathula offers makes up for the efforts.
Built atop a hill, looking over the Gangtok city, the Rumtek Monastery is one of the largest monasteries in Sikkim. It showcases beautiful Tibetan architecture style and also houses a number of rare artifcats. Along with a picturesque view of the Gangtok city, the Rumtek Monastery engulfs the visitors with a rare sense of peace.
